The Winery
Marco Abella is a family-owned winery located in the village of Porrera (D.O.Q. Priorat, Catalonia, Spain), one of the most prestigious wine-growing regions in the world. The winery is considered a pioneer of “modern Priorat wines.”
The winery is among the ten most important wineries in Priorat in terms of production volume. It exports 70% of its output to more than 20 countries, with China, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany being its main export markets.
Since 2019, Marco Abella has also produced two wines in the DO Terra Alta: Olbieta and Olbieta Blanc, as well as a kosher wine since 2021.
The Terroir
Marco Abella owns 41 hectares of vineyards. All the vineyards are located in the village of Porrera (Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain), spread across seven different peaks of seven distinct mountains (500–750 meters above sea level). Their location is truly unique. The grape varieties planted are predominantly the region’s native ones: Garnacha (18 ha) and Cariñena (18 ha), along with some Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 ha) and 3.5 ha of white varieties—Garnacha Blanca, Viognier, Macabeu, and Picapoll.
The microclimate of Marco Abella’s plots gives the wines their characteristic freshness, finesse, and elegance, with notes of black and red fruits, flowers, English tobacco, sweet spices, and subtle mineral touches. They manage our vineyards with great care and respect for the environment.
